It was 2017 when I was sitting in front of the TV watching the absolutely sad "European Song Contest", in which the singers outdid each other in horror until the eventual winner appeared. I said to my wife: "He doesn't even fit in here, it's art". The winner was Salvador Sobral. The trained jazz musician performed in Kiev with the song "Amar pelos dois", which was written by his sister Luísa Sobral. Both are descended from a German-Portuguese collateral line of the House of Oldenburg from the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck line. One of his ancestors is Charles I of Hohenzollern. Shortly after his victory, which was the first for Portugal in this competition, he was given a new heart in hospital.
With fado from Lisbon and cante alentejano from Beixe Alentejo, Portugal has established two forms of singing that are part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Moonspell, a successful metal band, and Bispo, a rap musician from Portugal, are completely different.
