Irish singer and songwriter Damien Rice worked on his third studio album with legendary producer Rick Rubin, who was named the most important producer of the last 20 years by MTV in 2007. If you want to take a look at the work, you'll find it here.
The special thing about "It takes a lot to know a man" is the division of the song. In the first part, we hear a calm Damien Rice singing one of his typically beautiful songs with a fantastic voice about more empathy in dealing with the opposite sex. Then the song breaks off and a canon-like sequence begins, which builds more and more dramatically towards the climax. The piano kicks in, water splashes and the second part begins, carrying the piano melody forward, while first a beguiling violin part and later wind instruments leave us alone with the music. Very, very beautiful.
What it's like when Damien Rice gives a very personal concert together with Cantus Domus can be experienced in the following video. It takes a lot to know a man a capella for just one person at a time. - Such a beautiful concert.
