Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture, Op. 49

In the original, Tchaikovsky intended that real cannons should thunder in the last part of the overture. How it sounds ...
Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture Conducted by Erich Kunzel telarc

The 1812 Overture is an audiophile dream on the most legendary Telarc album.
The magnificent recording of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Erich Kunzel, combined with brilliant sound effects, makes this piece a sonic treat.
The bells, are those of the Emery Memorial Carillon, representing the sound of church bells in the spirit of Tchaikovsky.
In order to capture the most authentic recording possible, three cannons from the 19th century Fifth Virginia Regiment were used to capture the sound of the cannons as realistically as possible. Tchaikovsky's score requires different charges, so that no two cannon blasts are the same. The high dynamics of the cannon sounds are easy to hear.

Audiophile specialists will prefer the 180g vinyl disc. But be careful. There may be a real danger to the speakers. It rumbles a lot 😉
