Binaural means "with both ears" and describes a special recording technique that simulates human natural hearing. A dummy head with two microphones positioned exactly where human eardrums sit is used for the recording.
The result: a realistic, three-dimensional sound experience through headphones. Your brain forgets you're wearing headphones – the sounds seem to come from outside.
A Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset was used for the recordings – worn like a normal in-ear headphone with two microphones. The sound was only normalised in level, no other processing.
Put on headphones – press play – enjoy
Excerpts from Jef Mills' Blue Potential (Techno live with Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra) and Mozart's Requiem / Confutatis by the Academy of Ancient Music with the Choir of King's College.
Tennyson with Like What – perfect to hear the spatial depth. Then Shirley Bassey with Goldfinger from the Best of James Bond album.
A.A. Williams sings Where is my Mind, then Julia Stone with Beds are Burning. Feel the purity of the sound.
