Raye - Hans Zimmer - Click Clack Symphony

Sometimes the loudest noise in a silent, dark apartment is the rhythmic clicking of heels on the asphalt. This exact sound – the "Click Clack" – became a symbol of departure for British singer-songwriter RAYE. In her latest work "Click Clack Symphony" from the album THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE, she processes a phase of depression and the moment when friends literally pull her out of the house to participate in life again.

The collaboration with none other than film composer Hans Zimmer elevates the piece to a cinematic level. While RAYE tells of the fragility of the human psyche with her signature honest and soul-stirring voice, Zimmer weaves an orchestral carpet that combines the intimacy of a jazz club with the power of a blockbuster. It is a "spiritual sequel" to her hit Escapism, but this time the path leads not into self-destruction, but towards the light.

The collaboration with Hans Zimmer brings a real "London Symphony Orchestra" feeling to the table. There are many fine layers: strings, cello breaks, organ elements (played by Zimmer himself), and complex arrangements. Quiet, intimate passages alternate with epic, cinematic outros, creating high dynamics. The "Click Clack" rhythm (the sound of women's heels) is precise and sets the pace without booming. And then there’s Raye's voice—front and center, present, as if she were in the room.

The album consists of four parts, representing the four seasons. She said in an interview with ELLE: "Music is medicine, I’ve always said that. I guess I’m in the process of making medicine for myself that I can share with the world. I want us all to say to ourselves that it’s going to be all right, and I’m going to have faith in the seeds that I’ve planted beneath the snow. I wanted to create something that is a hug, bed, or soft place for that person who needs it."

For the song, she sent Hans Zimmer an initial demo tape and asked him if he wanted to collaborate; if not, no problem. A few days later, the arrangement was finished.
