Dillon - Thirteen Thirtyfive

Thirteen Thirtyfive on Dillon's debut album emerged from a cascade of borrowings. I like to use the clear, reduced music tracks to test jukeboxes.

Every artist needs inspiration and of course often gets it from other artists, changes it a bit or uses elements of the other for his own purposes. When Jens Lekman based his song "Pocketful of money" on the song "Gravedigger Blues" by Beat Happening, Dillon wrote a poem and listened to Jens Lekman's song for days. The poem fit perfectly with his sound. And so Gravedigger Blues somehow became Thirteen Thirtyfive. Below are the three songs in the media carousel.

She wrote the lyrics when she was about 17. She doesn't tell us why, why and why not in interviews. The debut album was released on 21.11.2011. It contains a selection of songs that she had written in the years before. Thirteen Thirtyfive begins with her somewhat raspy voice, snapping fingers and the piano kicking in. The minimalism is perfect for picking out the last nuances. This has been particularly important for me since the weekend, as the soundbar has been given a hardware upgrade to the next - outstanding - version. The sound is now even more transparent and puts music in its best form. If only you could hear it 😉

Her voice is said to have something of Björk in it, which probably has its origins in the song "Tip Tapping", which for some probably sounds similar to the Björk song "It's oh so quiet". In any case, Dillon's voice sounds completely different.

I personally like a few other tracks from the album. For example, "Undying need to Scream" with the crooked scratching and squeaking noises or Abrupt Clarity with the "The closer i got, the less i could feel - the louder it got, the more it seemed real" in a continuous loop.

Thirteen Thirtyfive is her most successful song in terms of downloads. The fate of the hit single. It often stands alone and nobody knows the entire work.

Here is a live version....

And if you want to know a little more about Dillon, you can delve even deeper here. In any case, you realize that there are about 7 years between the two interviews.
