Black should at least be familiar to those born before 1990. His big hits, which include Wonderful Life and Everything's coming up roses, were played up and down on the radio in the late 80s and early 90s. Colin Vearncombe's start as a musician was not a sure-fire success and it took him a few attempts. Even "Wonderful Life" only became a hit with the second release at the end of the 80s.
Even after the success of the album "Wonderful Life", things didn't go smoothly and anyone interested in the inner struggles of an artist who doesn't have the second success after the first can read about it here: https://colinvearncombe.com/biography/
The live version from Johannesburg was recorded in September 2001 and shows a new style that he showed at live concerts. I like this sound. Then the original version for comparison.
If you want to find out more, you can watch this video - his last interview. Colin Vearncombe died in hospital in Cork after a car accident on January 26, 2016.
