Beady Belle - Truth Wide Open

Great grooves, wonderful funk and soul backbeats, the best synth sounds, crystal clear vocals and the whole thing performed with a certain analytical warmth ...
Beady Belle - Nothing but the truth cover

If I were asked how I would describe the song, adjectives such as fresh, exciting and experimental would certainly be included. A world of sound in its own right, which she has been pursuing since 1999 and continues to surprise her listeners.

The Norwegian group Beady Belle composed, produced, arranged and programmed the entire album themselves, following the R&B and soul approach.

"It's nothing but the truth - It's for real - It's for sure - Nothing but the truth - This is clean - This is pureNothing but the truth - Wide open"

This first verse also shows what Beady Bell's music is all about, nothing but the real music. Due to the corona pandemic, there was little contact with other musicians. That's why Beady Belle call the record true. She can't hide behind anyone or list others as producers or contributors. And since the piece is virtually unvarnished, the video shows a body paint running backwards.

Beady Belle are Beate S. Lech and her husband Marius Reksjø (bass and many other important things), Erik Holm (drums) and occasionally Jørn Øien. The album "Nothing but the truth" was created during the Corona period and therefore has strong similarities to the first album "Home", where Beate Lech did all the work herself; composing, arranging, writing lyrics, programming, recording and producing. And all of this was done in her 6-square-meter apartment with her Macbook. The strings, vibraphone and drums also had to be recorded in the room. Marius Reksjø took care of the groove elements during the 1.5 years it took to create the album, while Beate Lech composed the melodies, harmonies and lyrics. It goes without saying that this first record had to be called "Home" given the production conditions.

On the cover, it looks as if she has wrapped her hair in a towel, which emphasizes the homemade style.

At the time, the style was still more reminiscent of the electropop of the early 2000s. One example is the first single from the album "Home": Ghosts.
