Canada has already produced a large number of past and present stars. Leonard Cohen, Paul Anka, Shawn Mendes, Céline Dion, The Weekend, Nelly Furtado, Neil Young, Oscar Peterson, Joni Mitchell, Justin Biber, Drake, Shania Twain or Avril Lavigne, Feist, Bryan Adams, Grimes and Alanis Morissette, all Canadians.
So let’s pick out two of them. One because, like some here, he also became famous through an engagement in a soap opera before his musical success came about. Drake first became famous in “Degrassi: The Next Generation”. After that, his music career took off.
Leonard Cohen, because he had such an influence on other musicians with his music and some of his songs are associated more with other musicians than with himself; e.g. Hallelujah, First we take Manhatten or Dance me to the End of Life. He has addressed all existential questions about love, friendship, the meaning of life, human suffering, death and spirituality and set standards with his melancholy, minimalist sound. Because it is reproduced so beautifully spatially on the soundbar, I have selected “Lover Lover Lover” here in a live version from 1979 (Spotify playlist) from the album “Field Commander Cohen”.
