The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

A sporting talent and a musical genius with an absolute ear. He learned instruments from accordion to piano to electric bass, often self-taught and just by listening. On his 15th birthday he was given a Wollesak 2-track tape recorder as a present, which laid the foundation for his extraordinary skills in arranging pieces of music.

Together with the Beach Boys, he created a unique sound that often comes across as summery and light, with choral interludes that give it a character that makes it unique. A surfin sound.

In 1966, after several breakdowns and extensive drug use, he released the Beach Boys’ eleventh album “Pet Sounds”, which revolutionized pop music and set new standards for musical creativity and production. Traditional song structures were broken up and new experimental recording methods created a groundbreaking sound. Pop music was no longer pop, but an expression of artistic creativity. At the same time, the album represents the high point and a turning point in his creative life.

The mono vinyl version (good only in some pressings) is considered a rarity and was also preferred by Brian Wilson as it offers a denser, more consistent and detailed soundscape.
