WM-2022: Tunisia

How much has the French Prorectorate affected Tunisian music culture? ....
Flag Tunisia

One of the better-known singers in Tunisia is Mohamed Salah Balti, who has been producing as "Balti" since the early 2000s. He published his duet with Hamouda on YouTube and became a very well-known singer in Tunisia and the Arab world as a result.

Another Tunisian metal/rock group is Myrath, who mix traditional Tunisian instruments with their rock sound. The belly dance by Hassan Abou el Seoud is more traditional. The piece Shik Shak Shok is one of the most popular songs to which the hips are swayed.

Tunisia was under French protectorate for 75 years, which ended in 1956. It has a population of 12 million. Since the Arab Spring in 2014, democratic structures have been created and the country is now considered the only Arab democracy. In Qatar, Tunisia is taking part in the World Cup for the sixth time. In 1966, like all 15 other African teams, they withdrew from the tournament because FIFA only allowed teams from Africa, Asia and Oceania one place in the final round. FIFA scandals and subsequent positive developments have therefore happened before.
